The Brief
To design a garden that provided pleasing vistas from the house and created interesting seating areas in which to entertain or simply enjoy the garden. The planting to be soft and informal.
The Site
The small plot was an odd shape with two separate areas linked by a narrow path densely shaded by a row of conifers. Existing beds were overgrown and did not provide the style of planting the Client wanted.
The Design
A separate dining area was created outside the kitchen door to allow easy access to the house. This was shaded by a new pergola with scented climbers. All the paving was created using a ‘rusted’ slate which itself added interest to the area. The dense conifers that shaded the narrow link path were cleared and raised beds were constructed to make the path area appear wider. These were planted with soft shade tolerant plants and climbers. The main part of the garden was replanted with a variety of shrubs and herbaceous plants and lots of scented climbers. A second seating area was constructed around a fire pit to allow the family to enjoy the garden way into the late evening.
